Wishes Upon Airplanes
"Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now~"
It's early autumn and just the perfect weather and mood for laying by the beach and stargaze.
And that's exactly what I did, lying alone by the coast listening to Lights. Under a blanket of starlight, the lyrics to her songs linger and echo in my mind.
And just as I was lost in those melodies while staring aimlessly in the night sky, a little flicker of light entered the frame at constant speed, juxtaposing against the stillness of its background. As its trajectory crossed into my gaze, I was suddenly intrigued to make a wish. With my eyes shut tight, I clasped my hands together and whispered into the silent autumn night.
When you make wishes upon stars, they sort of exist forever in space, clung onto that particular star you attached it to. But when you make wishes upon airplanes, they flicker through the canvas and exit the frame, making it more fleeting and precious in that moment.
As I peeped to see if the flickering light was still in frame after making my first wish in soft whisper, I was overwhelmed with satisfaction when it was just by the edge of the sky, almost as if I blew the candle just before it was about it burn out.
Can't help but smile :)
Then from another edge of the canvas, another tiny flickering light entered the frame.
So I just spent the whole night making wishes upon airplanes. I hope they come true!
(ps: i'm back in jeju and have been here for 52 days already)
