Do Now, Think Later

As I sit here on the coast of Hualien, facing the endless skies and sea, so many thoughts crossed my head.  Pardon the messy monologues:

Hey. I'm really lucky eh.

Shucks I really need to pee. Oh hey the sea! Should I just.... no.

Hey look at those kids playing with the waves, wished I grew up like that.

Manz I miss my friends.

I can just sit here all day. Hey why not actually.

Oh. Cause I really need to pee.

Had a discussion with Michelle about how different Singaporeans are from Taiwanese. I wouldn't speak for everyone, but at least for Michelle and I, we were brought up in a way where we were told to think before we act, always play it safe. There's nothing wrong with that to be honest. Just that a little bit of me wished there were nature around when growing up, then we might view people and the world differently.

We tend to think about the "then"; the consequences of our actions and all these unnecessary worries that stem from paranoia. But having observed different families and groups of friends on the Chihsingtan coast of Hualien, there's this charm of them living in the "now" that really appeals and captivate me.

They take it slow and just do what they feel like doing.

"Oh! The waves are coming OMG TOO HIGH AHHHHH WE WET WE WET!!! Hahahahaha"

but for us it's like "omg I'm in my boots and jeans, I don't want to take it off and wet myself then need to do laundry then there'll be sand bits stuck in the pockets then my socks and boots will stink blah blah"

you know what I mean? Sometimes I wished we lose this voice in our head and start from a clean slate.

Was observing a family with 2 young girls playing with the crashing waves, the mum said it's time to go! One of them requested to touch the waves once more, so they stood at the dad-approved safe spot waiting for the waves to reach their feet but the waves were just short of hitting them.

Then the youngest girl shouted to the mum "the sea doesn't want us to leave!"

How cute is that! and when they finally touched the waves, you could feel the overwhelming exhilaration and happiness from their laughters and screams. Rather than feeling disappointed that it's time to go, they were more appreciative of the current moment of having touched the waves.

I wished I could end this post saying that we eventually took off our boots and walked bare feet into the waves, but forgive me for not walking the talk. Hahaha sorry! Today I wanted to embrace my Singaporeanliness and be lazy about doing laundry.  :p

But hey! Something to think about!

loves,
